OVERVIEW

Off the Ground Theatre have been giving opportunities to young and emerging artists for more than 30 years.

Founded in 1994, the year of our first touring production, we've since

gone on to establish one of Merseyside's premier youth

theatres, as well as producing a packed calendar of works,

from studio shows and new writing, festivals and monthly

themed evenings, workshops and education outreach, to our

annual summer touring show, which travels around the North

West, Wales and Ireland.

Young people are at the heart of what OTG is all about. It's how

we got our name! We pride ourselves on finding emerging

talent in the region and championing it, often taking those

talented artists and giving them their first taste of the

professional theatre world.

Over many successful years we've built fantastic working

relationships with so many top arts organisations across

Merseyside and beyond, and we draw on those partnerships

to ever expand our talent pool. So, if you're looking for a step into

the theatre world, let us help get you off the ground!

YOUTH

Our youth theatre is the jewel in the crown of Off the Ground Theatre.

Established in 1996, we are now into our fourth decade of running weekly drama sessions for young people, aged 10 to 21.

We have three distinct groups, each dedicated to learning the core skills of theatre training, each running on a different week night.

As of 2026, we offer a clear pathway and curriculum, from joining the youth theatre at 'Foundation' level between the ages of 10-14, to moving into our 'Development' phase and beyond, before eventually being offered professional opportunities when training is complete, if eligible.

For those not looking to pursue a career in the arts, youth theatre still has enormous benefits. The skills learned in communication, collaboration, confidence, public speaking, teamwork, physical and emotional control, as well as the friendships forged in the shared effort of working on productions, all last a lifetime.

Take a look at our Youth Theatre page for all the information, pathway, and how to get started!

SUMMER

Unusually for a theatre company, summer is the busiest period for OTG. Our summer touring productions have been hitting the road since 1994, taking in venues from across England, Wales and Ireland.

In that time we've covered a lot of ground, and brought

a lot of different shows to our audiences. We have a

specialty for Shakespeare, and so one of the classic

comedies are never too far away from the schedule.

We also love an adventure story, though. We love it

even more if it's a piece of new writing, often by one of

our own graduates! Previous youth theatre students

have written loads of our works, from adaptations of

Treasure Island or Peter Pan, to all-new pieces such as

The Ballads of Billy the Kid or Sinbad.

On top of that, we reserve at least one place each

summer for a youth theatre graduate, it's part of our

continued pledge to prioritise access to the arts for young people. Our casts are primarily made up of young and

emerging talent from across the region, but we reserve a place in every cast for one of our own too.
