A group of convicts and their officers have been sent from England to New South Wales, to a penal colony. Set in the 1780s, the group decide to put on a production of a play of their own, The Recruiting Officer. We follow their progress through rehearsals, looking at what they learn about the importance of creation and art, as well as what they learn about one another, and themselves.
